Civil War governor’s mansion in Louisiana destroyed in fire

A suspected arson fire claimed the house of a Louisiana Civil War governor on July 14, 2016. Known as the Governor’s Mansion, the structure in Opelousas was occupied by Confederate governor Thomas O. Moore for less than a year in the months between 1862-1863. A museum close by was also burned but not heavily damaged. The Governor’s Mansion was a total loss.
