Garrett right to oppose ban on Confederate flags | Letter

When we look at the past we can’t just judge by our present standards. U.S. representative Garrets opposition of the ban on confederate flags in cemeterys is his right. We should be able to try and think of the morality of the time we are discussing. During the civil war men were fighting for what they believed were states rights. To judge that based on our own morality is very narrow minded.

Key Takeaways:

  • Garret has his own right to oppose bans on the Confederate flag.
  • It’s important to take the time period into account when we are condemning people’s actions.
  • Divided in culture, upheaval was imminent in the nation.

“A bit of history laced with psychology and sociology allows one to appreciate the evolution of morality.”
