The Mississippi Economic Council has unveiled a bicentennial banner to mark 2017 – drawing immediate attention, given the political tension over the state flag. Mississippi is the only state that has not removed the Confederate emblem from its state flag. MEC led a move to get rid of the Confederate emblem in 2001 that drew a backlash. Mississippians voted 2-1 to keep the current flag.
