It was fortunate that a collector of historical munitions noted that a recently bought cannonball contained a still intact fuse, potentially allowing it to detonate, which led the woman to notify a manager at the auction site of purchase, who in turn notified the police. A bomb squad unit evacuated the area and safely removed the civil war era weapon. The owner of the trading site, where the cannonball was purchased, vowed to enforce the trading center’s stated policy that absolutely no weapons shall be sold loaded, or in an otherwise unsafe manner.
