Confederate flag to remain flying over zoning dispute in Rockbridge County

County officials have said the flag pole violates setback requirements that limit how close a structure can be placed to a public highway — and that their decision had nothing to do with controversies in the community and across the country over displays of the Confederate flag. After informing the Flaggers of the zoning violation, the Rockbridge County Community Development Department wrote in a Jan. 17 letter that if the pole was not removed within 45 days — by Monday — the county would impose civil fees.
