Despite two pleas from the local NAACP, The Orange County School Board of Education in Hillsborough has decided not to ban the confederate flag from school property. This is despite that fact that many parents and students are worried the flag, viewed as a racist symbol, can incite violence. The board has established an equity commission aimed at preventing hate speech and intolerance.
