Dallas’ Confederate War Memorial, created in 1896, is one of the city’s oldest sculptures. Some believe the memorial is an important piece of history, while others see it as a symbol of hate. Defenders of the memorial, such as the Sons of Confederate Veterans, value its historical significance and insist that “History should not be erased, good or bad.” But there is a growing call to remove the memorial, which many believe celebrates the Confederate cause, including slavery.
