In 1947 the American Graves Registration group exhumed the bones of thousands of soldiers who were buried in foreign countries during WWII. Among them were the bones of Pete Counter, listed missing in action originally and later said to lie in an Indonesian grave. Collected after the war, his remains were interred in several American plots until 1947. Thanks to DNA analysis and dental records, Conter’s body has finally been identified and is to be buried in Onoway, Michigan.
