Letter: Flag not a representation of slavery

For a very long time this country has been seen as racist. What happened to American pride? The flag is a symbol and trademark of our country and many people do not see it that way. It is is seen as a racist thing along with the national anthem. This flag should be celebrated, not hated on or against because it is our symbol of freedom and believe me we are the most free country, this is the only place we can criticize things about our leader and country.

Key Takeaways:

  • The confederate battle flag is not the flag of the confederacy
  • The south was not fighting for slavery but for their customs and heritage
  • We need to see the southern fighters as veterans just as in any war

“Who are we to support? Shall it be the one who, by representing the Confederate battle flag, is remembering a family veteran, or anyone whose interpretation is that of hate?”
