The diary of Confederate soldier Eugene L. Johnston was returned to Henderson County, Tennessee. The diary detailed the Civil War experiences of Johnston from July of 1862 to January of 1863. Shortly after starting the diary Johnston was imprisoned in Indiana in August of 1862, but he escaped along with another solider and ultimately had them rejoining the Confederate army in Mississippi. On January 2nd of 1863 Johnston died in battle.
