A commission in Charlottesville, SC, voted to keep two Confederate monuments, named the Lee and Jackson monuments. One member of the commission, John Edwin Mason, tweeted that the commission agreed to maintain these monuments as long as the meanings behind them are transformed. Some recommendations that the commission put forward in regards to these statues are establishing March 3rd as “Liberation Day” to commemorate the Union’s entrance into the city back in 1865.
