Christmas Picket

On a Christmas morning, Lieutenant R. J. Lambert accompanied his detail of twenty men from the fourth Texas regiment along the Potomac. Soon after the commencement of the war, the Lieutenant was acclimating to the days of battle. On a cold and snowy day, they experienced the first taste of war-time excitement after a near encounter with an time-tested hospital vessel that had originally been mistakenly identified.
