The controversial 121-year-old Confederate monument at the University of Louisville is moving to Brandenburg, Ky., Mayor Greg Fischer announced late Tuesday afternoon. “This new location provides an opportunity to remember and respect our history in a more proper context,” Fischer said. “And it’s close enough that Louisvillians can visit.” The decision comes seven months after Fischer and former U of L President James Ramsey ignited a fierce debate over race, slavery and preservation when the pair announced the memorial would be dismantled and moved.
