Bill Cotty of Columbia, SC, passed away from lung cancer on July 24, 2016 at his home. Cotty was a South Carolina Representative and one of the people instrumental in removing the Confederate flag from the statehouse dome. Last year the battle flag was removed altogether from the statehouse grounds after the church killings in Charleston. He served in the South Carolina House for 14 years.
