Honoring Our Confederate Heritage & Virtues

Ole Miss has become the University of Nowhere

After university officials on the campus of Ole Miss tore down the Mississippi state flag, some students seek justice. Andrew Soper, senior business major from Tupelo, agrees with his blog post, “Ole Miss has become the University of Nowhere”. The act took place in response to the “Back Lives Matter” movement last fall. The removal of such prideful and traditional symbols of their state and University upset students such as Andrew because it was viewed as disregarding the state’s culture and history.

Key Takeaways:

  • In tearing down the state flag in the name of adherence to the UM Creed, they commit the most egregious violations: rejecting civility and fairness by falsely calling whole groups of people or things racist.
  • If the administration truly believed that taking the flag down and bowing further to the willfully ignorant would improve the racial division on this campus, they were painfully mistaken.
  • Despite the rainy day, despite the ill-will, despite the sadness of attending a university that rejects its own home and its history, good and bad. No longer the University of Mississippi, but a University of Nowhere.

“”While calling for reconciliation, they incite strife on campus, driving a wedge into the community by demeaning Ole Miss and using institutional power to remove tangible elements of its culture.””
