The mayor of Tupelo, Mississippi, won’t permanently remove the state flag from its usual space, flying over the Tupelo City Hall. However, he did temporarily oversee its removal during a demonstration against recent police action by a local community group. It was a good will gesture, with the state flag flying again after the demonstration had concluded. The mayor said that any final decision would not be up to him, but rather the city council.
