Female soldiers in the Civil War?

In My Civil War Obsession’s article regarding the thought of there being any female fighters during the civil war, where he speaks of there being wide spread rumors of such a thing and gives a bit of insight into what he knows. He speaks of the Holly Springs informing that there were a few companies that were often trained for situations and were pledged into the actual army in order to be able to protect their family as well as their farm crops. They were said to be they were to feed the soldiers.
