San Francisco school board member Matt Haney is proposing that several schools in the area change their names. He suggests that schools named after Washington, Jefferson and other early American icons should be renamed because of these individuals’ tie to the slave trade. He suggests that the schools be renamed after such people as San Francisco native Maya Angelou, a poet and author. Haney plans to introduce his proposal before the end of the month.
