Despite an appeal last month from the Northern Orange NAACP chapter, the North Carolina school board has voted not to ban the Confederate flag from school grounds. Although parents complained about the presence of a Confederate flag they saw at their children’s school, the board stressed the importance of programmatic rather than banning a symbol.
