Letter: War was about economics

There is a lot of debate as to what the Civil War was all about. The main thing that people think of when you talk about the Civil War is slavery. But, there were other things that lead to the conflict and they were economic goals that each side had. There is a lot to learn about the Civil War that many people do not know and are not aware of.

Key Takeaways:

  • There are plans to build a new civic center. It has been a top issue. Voters will get to weigh in on the prospective site. The debate and choice has sparked lobbying campaigns.
  • There won’t be any landslide victories in the positions being filled. As of Monday, a likely winner was too close to call, but the total turnout is likely to mirror almost exactly the numbers and turnout of four years ago.
  • Voters need to be aware that in order to fill out the entire ballot, they will have to choose either Republican, Democrat or nonpartisan party as a selection. If voters are unsure of what to expect, they can pull up samples on the State’s website, or mobile app.
