In Richmond, Virginia two meetings of the Monument Avenue Commission have been set to give the public an opportunity to weigh in on what to do about Confederate monuments in that city. Currently, there are no plans to remove the monuments. Instead, the commission intends to place placards beside each monument to explain its historical context. There is also a proposal to add new monuments that represent prominent historical figures of color.
